- LyondellBasell’s HDPE plant, which has been inoperative since 2005, will be dismantled at the beginning of the year.
- Praxair begins with the construction of a new and more modern air separation facility. When the new facility is finished at the end of 2010, their 40 year old plant will be decommissioned.
- The RHEIN-ERFT AKADEMIE, a subsidiary of InfraServ Knapsack, will be taken over by the Foundation for Education and Trade (Stiftung für Bildung & Handwerk) at the end of March.
- The “House of NICA”, which was designed and built by apprentices, will be officially opened by the middle of the year. (A project dedicated to the sustainability of chemical occupations).
- The first hydrogen vehicle filling station will be opened at the beginning of May.
- Statkraft will introduce its construction plans for their new power plant in the Chemical Industrial Park Knapsack in September.
- Dirk Boehme will be taking over from Wolfgang Althaus as head of the refuse derived fuel power station in October.
- Jörn Müller will follow Achim Rodekirchen and becomes the youngest Operations Manager to date at Basell in Knapsack.
- Groundbreaking ceremony took place for the electronic marshalling interlocking system for rail operations of InfraServ Knapsack.
- Test phase of two hydrogen buses of the short distance public transport of the cities of Hürth and Brühl has started. The buses are fueled at the Hürth gate of The Chemical Industrial Park Knapsack.
- Statkraft receives construction and operations authorization from the District Council of Cologne for the construction and operation of their second power station.
- The demolition of Clariant's Oxaphospholan plant, which was decommissioned in late 2008, will be completed by the end of October. The property will then return to InfraServ Knaspack.
