The chemical site on the Knapsacker Hügel in Hürth has been more than just an important employer for numerous people and companies from the surrounding area for over 100 years. Raw materials and products, which we all use everyday, are created, research and development is being done for our future and young people are being trained as specialized workers.

 

In an open and active dialogue with you as citizens, politicians, authorities, associations, press and schools, we take on a responsibility for the region, arouse interest and understanding of the chemical industry and technology and ensure good working relationships. This characterizes an attractive site factor and it’s a win-win situation for everyone involved.

 

Products from Knapsack

 

Products from the Chemical Park Knapsack are the basis for innumerable comforts of daily life. CD-covers, water pipes and synthetic window frames, crop protection products against fungus in gardens, insulation materials for homes or lubricants for car engines are just a few examples of the many uses of materials, products and know-how from the companies in Knapsack. 

 

Improvements as well as new substances and technologies are constantly being researched and developed. Thus, for example, more efficient flame retardants and the most modern high-temperature superconductors for low-loss energy management are all created, due to the innovative spirit in the Chemical Park Knapsack.

 

Jobs and education

 

We are a steadfast employer, tax payer and customer in and for the region providing circa 2,200 jobs, a further 300 permanent jobs in the Chemical Park Knapsack for workers from small and mid-sized companies in the region and we make investments amounting to around one hundred million Euros annually.

 

Vocational education and further qualification opportunities are both key factors for all of the companies on the site. 300 young people are being trained in the various companies in the Chemical Park Knapsack.  In addition, the RHEIN-ERFT AKADEMIE also trains people for additional companies in the region in various skilled occupations and provides qualified advanced training of specialized workers, such as courses for foremen and master craftsmen, as well as extra-occupational courses of study. School children and students alike, who come from the surrounding schools and university-level institutions, acquire insight into practical on the job experience by way of internships and writing their final theses when they come to us.

 

Opportunities for workers in the Chemical Park Knapsack are just as numerous. Not only chemists and specialized chemical workers have jobs here, but there are also many electrical and mechanical professions as well as engineers and administrative employees from various fields at work in the companies on site.

 

Sports and social life

 

The companies in Knapsack are closely tied to clubs and associations through their employees. Sports clubs, such as the Tennis-Club Knapsack E.V. and the Segel-Club Knapsack e.V arose just like the Große Knapsacker Karnevals-Gesellschaft, which is made up of community members and family members of employees creating a bond and they have all enriched the events in Hürth for countless decades.

Even today the employees’ and community members’ dedication to sports and social welfare is encouraged by the companies on site as well as by InfraServ Knapsack. Besides carrying out their own projects, select social welfare institutions, relief organizations as well as clubs and associations are all readily supported.

 

Cultural events

 

The so-called “Feierabendhaus, which belongs to the Chemical Park Knapsack, is one of most versatile event locations in Greater Cologne, and naturally, readily used for cultural events in Hürth. This listed building has been a key event location for carnival sessions, plays, art exhibitions and musical events for over 50 years.

 

The companies in the Chemical Park Knapsack regularly support special cultural events, traditional festivals and music groups from Hürth.
