Environmental protection

Environmental protection is an integral part of all planning and production processes of the companies located in the Chemical Park Knapsack. The protection of the environment as well as economical and efficient production and business dealings do not necessarily contradict one another. Given rising energy costs and the increasingly changing climate, energy and raw materials cost savings are, from an economical and environmental view, of equal importance.

Climate, ecology and sustainability are key concepts today and are dependent upon society being responsible as a whole.  Each and every company in the Chemical Park Knapsack is actively committed to taking its own responsibility for protecting the environment. The careful handling of raw materials, a sustainable approach toward the use of such and energy sources as well as other assets are a common target across the board at the chemical park.

Processes and technology concerning environmental protection have been continually developed since the founding of the site. We have been doing our own research, especially in the waste water and exhaust gas treatment sectors, since the construction of a “central department for water and air “in the old Hoechst AG works in 1961. The improvement of processes and procedures focused on conserving the environment is stated in the guidelines of InfraServ GmbH & Co. Knapsack KG, operator of the chemical park.

The plants in the chemical park adhere to the prescriptive limits required by law for all relevant air pollutants and, more often than not, many of the measurement parameters fall far below the these limits. This has been documented by way of taking measurements regularly.

Avoidance and reductions, with regard to noise protection and waste management, are paramount objectives for protecting the environment, the neighbouring community and employees.

The plants of the companies on site are responsible for ecological policies. InfraServ GmbH & Co. Knapsack KG, the operator of the Chemical Park and main service provider, carries out the monitoring of environmental affects and assists companies with evaluations and planning in many cases. Furthermore, we provide authorized representatives for immission control and water protection, dangerous goods and waste for companies on site.
