Correct behavior during an emergency

Should an incident in the Chemical Park Knapsack occur, which affects the neighboring community, you will be informed through News, which is on our website, press releases or via our citizens information telephone: Tel.: 02233 48-6001.

In case of danger concerning the neighboring community, such as fire smoke and/or fumes, you will be additionally warned by the works sirens in and around the chemical park. Listen to the radio announcements on WDR 2 (VHF 100.4 MHz) and Radio Erft (VHF 105.8 MHz) as well as megaphone announcements from the police and fire departments.

 

Please follow the procedures listed below, when you hear warning sirens and/or when you notice any danger, such as harmful substances in the air (vapors), irritating odors and fire or explosions, for your own safety:

 

Outdoors

  • Close the windows of your vehicle and turn off the ventilation system.
  • Go into a building.
  • Get children and passers-by into a house or building.

 

In rooms

  • Close all doors and windows and turn off the ventilation system.
  • Proceed to the rooms furthest inside the building on the top floor.

Personal /bodily protection

  • Hold wet a wet cloth in front of your nose and mouth.
  • Do not touch any items that have been contaminated with chemicals that have escaped with your bare hands.
  • Do not wear clothing or shoes that have been contaminated into a house, building or apartment.
  • Wash contaminated skin with soap and water.
  • In case of health problems, please contact your primary care doctor immediately or call an emergency health care service.

 

Sources of information

  • Pay attention and listen to radio and megaphone announcements
  • Follow the instructions given by emergency personnel and do not block telephone lines to the fire department, police or rescue services by asking further questions, except, of course, if there is a fire or incident of some nature that requires an emergency call.
