SAFETY
WE TAKE PRECAUTIONS

Safety is a top priority at the Chemiepark Knapsack, which is why we constantly check and improve our precautionary measures in order to protect your health and that of our employees.

This begins with the safety and security access test "check-in“ at the works gate, without which no-one is permitted to operate at or enter the chemical industrial park.

Potential risks for the environment, health, safety and security are reduced as far as possible or completely eliminated through technical and organizational measures at the individual plants. Processes and production plants have been designed with automatic safety and security installations as well as restraining mechanisms, so that any possible hazards are reduced to a minimum.

The training of employees, regular plant servicing, inspections and maintenance as well as plant operations safety audits ensure the proper functioning of the safety provisions for all the companies on site.

Should an incident still occur despite all these precautionary measures, the accredited works fire department and the emergency manager of the chemical industrial park is on call 24/7 to prevent possible dangers.

ONE-STOP SAFETY

In order to guarantee the highest possible safety standards, the chemical industrial park operates an effective emergency organization in close cooperation with the companies. This ensures that competent persons with decision-making powers are available at all times for the community, companies, media representatives and authorities.

The neighboring community is warned by works sirens located in the nearby areas about fires, transport accidents or any other incidents at the chemical plants. We inform you immediately about how to react to warnings and dangers.

ENERGY SUPPLY

The reliable and economical supply of sufficient energy is one of the most important prerequisites for the chemical industry. The chemical park operator InfraServ Knapsack provides the manufacturing companies with the necessary energies in the form of electricity and process steam.

The continuous main load of the energy supply is borne by the refuse-derived fuel (RDF) power plant of E.ON Energy from Waste, where up to 300,000 tons of refuse-derived fuel are thermally utilized every year. This service is complemented by the combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant of the Norwegian energy company Statkraft. With 800 MW of installed capacity it is one of the largest CCGT power plants in Germany. A further combined gas turbine power plant with capacity of 400 MW is currently under construction. The energy supply of the Chemiepark Knapsack is thus guaranteed, also at peak load time.
