BEING THERE FOR YOU
OUR INVOLVEMENT IN THE REGION

The chemical site on Knapsack Hill in Hürth is more than just an important employer for numerous people and companies from the surrounding area. We see ourselves as part of the community, and this also means that we take on social responsibility. Together with the companies on site we are therefore please to get involved in the region.

Besides the active and open dialog that we conduct with citizens, politicians, authorities, associations, media and schools, we also take a keen interest in culture, sports and social projects. For us and our companies on site, good neighborly relations are an important location factor. We want to ensure that everyone involved – also beyond the boundaries of the chemical park – gains from our continued commitment.

Partners for regional educational institutions

In cooperation with a wide variety of educational institutions we seek to nurture interest in the chemical industry and technology among the coming generations.

With the programs of the "Knapsack Children's Academy", in which young children can themselves become active in the chemical industrial park, and TuWas (Technology and Science at Schools), interest in natural science subjects, computer science, mathematics and technology is already being awakened at elementary school level.

Cooperation agreements exist with secondary schools such as the Friedrich-Ebert-Realschule in Hürth and the Elisabeth-von-Thüringen Realschule in Brühl. These agreements cover job application training sessions, internships and company orientation events for students and teachers as well as lessons held in the companies and panel discussion in the schools.

A continual exchange of knowledge and information with the universities in the region also takes place via initiatives such as ChemCologne and the RHEIN-ERFT-AKADEMIE. Students in particular profit from the high degree of practical relevance.

ENERGY SUPPLY

The reliable and economical supply of sufficient energy is one of the most important prerequisites for the chemical industry. The chemical park operator InfraServ Knapsack provides the manufacturing companies with the necessary energies in the form of electricity and process steam.

The continuous main load of the energy supply is borne by the refuse-derived fuel (RDF) power plant of E.ON Energy from Waste, where up to 300,000 tons of refuse-derived fuel are thermally utilized every year. This service is complemented by the combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant of the Norwegian energy company Statkraft. With 800 MW of installed capacity it is one of the largest CCGT power plants in Germany. A further combined gas turbine power plant with capacity of 400 MW is currently under construction. The energy supply of the Chemiepark Knapsack is thus guaranteed, also at peak load time.
