WORKS FIRE DEPARTMENT
ALWAYS READY TO STEP IN
Safety is the highest priority at the Chemical Industrial Park Knapsack, especially when it comes to emergencies. The works fire department is a recognized full-time works fire department and part of InfraServ GmbH & Co. Knapsack KG, the company operating the chemical park.
In an emergency, the experienced firefighters can initiate damage control measures anywhere in the chemical park within five minutes. Using a radio system the works fire department immediately and simultaneously informs all the control rooms of the companies and key individuals. Links to the public fire departments are ensured by participation in the radio communications of the emergency and rescue services. Three dedicated telephone lines to the control center of the Rhein-Erft district are kept free at all times.
The works fire department is responsible primarily for fire prevention, firefighting and special tasks such as training company employees in emergency fire procedures and the use of fire extinguishers and respiratory equipment.
Over one hundred emergency drills take place in the companies every year. In addition to their daily training and special training seminars, the works firefighters possess specialized knowledge of the complex chemical plants on the site. A regular exchange as well as co-organized drills with the emergency organization of the chemical park also takes place with the public fire departments of the City of Hürth and the surrounding cities as well as with specialized personnel working at other chemical sites.
When new plants are being planned, the private works fire department defines and determines the fire protection measures necessary, a description of which is added to the approval applications for a plant or facility. Regular fire inspections are conducted in all the companies.
There are alarm plans in place for all of the operational areas of the companies in the chemical industrial park. These plans document particulars such as feedstock, plant fire protection equipment, etc.
