PRIVACY POLICY
General Introduction
We take the protection of your personal data very seriously and want you to feel secure when visiting our website. Our data protection practices comply in particular with the provisions of the EU General Data Protection Regulation, the German Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG-neu), and the German Telemedia Act (TMG). We would like to take this opportunity to inform you about the nature, scope, and purpose of the processing of your personal data. Please note in advance that this privacy policy applies solely to our websites and does not apply to third-party websites to which we provide links.
Subject Matter of Protection
The subject matter of protection is personal data. This refers to any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person (hereinafter referred to as the “data subject”). This includes, in particular, information that allows conclusions to be drawn about your identity (e.g., details such as your name, mailing address, email address, and phone number).
Technical Requirements
In order for you to connect to our website, your browser transmits certain data to our website’s web server. This is a technical necessity to ensure that the information you request can be provided by the website. To enable this, your IP address, the date and time of your request, and the type of operating system you are using, among other things, are stored and used for a maximum of 30 days. We reserve the right to store this data for a limited time to protect our legitimate interests, so that in the event of unauthorized access or an attempt to intentionally harm us through this channel, we can trace the data back to personal information (Art. 6 Abs. 1 f DSGVO). We will not store or forward this data for any purpose other than those stated above without first informing you and asking for your permission.
Users of our contact form
Our website features a contact form that can be used to contact us electronically. To ensure the secure transmission of your data, we guarantee an encrypted connection during the transmission process. By clicking the “Send Message” button, you consent to the transmission of the data entered in the form to us. We store your name and email address, as well as any additional information you provide, so that we can contact you and respond to your inquiry as effectively as possible. This allows us to provide you with the service you expect from us and also enables us to continuously improve our services (Art. 6 Abs. 1 f DSGVO).
Login Portal
We use a login portal to create a secure area that is accessible only to registered users. You will receive your login credentials after successfully registering on our website. As long as you remain registered, you can access the content and services that we offer exclusively to registered users. Registered users also have the option to change or delete the data provided during registration at any time, if necessary. During the login process, your login and the resulting transmission of your personal data are secured by encryption. The same applies during your visit to the secure area.
Tracking Tools
Our website uses features from various web analytics services provided by third-party companies, such as Google Inc. We explain in more detail below which specific services are involved and what data is analyzed.
Use of Google Analytics with the anonymization feature
We use Google Analytics on our website, a web analytics service provided by Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA, hereinafter referred to as “Google.” Google Analytics uses cookies that enable an analysis of your use of the website. The information generated by the cookies regarding your use of our online service (e.g., when, where, and how often you access our website, including your IP address) is generally transmitted to a Google server in the United States and stored there. To ensure that your IP address cannot be personally identified, it is immediately truncated after collection (e.g., by deleting the last 8 bits) and thereby anonymized. IP anonymization also applies to all member states of the European Union or other contracting states of the European Economic Area. For more information on IP anonymization and Google’s use of data, please visit: support.google.com/analytics/answer/2763052;
Processing is carried out in accordance with Art. 6 Abs. 1 a DSGVO and within the scope of your voluntary consent provided via our Cookie Consent Tool. You may revoke your consent at any time free of charge via the tool.
If you would like to decide for yourself which data Google collects regarding the websites you visit, you can download an opt-out add-on for your web browser. However, this add-on does not prevent data from being transmitted to us or to other web analytics services we use. For more information on using and installing the add-on, visit tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout;
If you use a mobile device (e.g., smartphone) to access our website, please click this link to prevent the transmission of analytics data to Google Analytics. The link above can also be used as an alternative to the browser add-on described above, as it activates an “opt-out cookie” that is valid only for this browser and this domain. If you delete the cookies in this browser, this cookie will also be lost, and you will need to click the link again.
Use of Google Tag Manager
We use Google Tag Manager from Google. Google Tag Manager allows marketers to manage a wide variety of website tags through a single interface. The tool (Tag Manager, which implements the tags) is a cookie-free domain and does not collect any personal data. It only triggers tags, which may in turn collect data. However, Google Tag Manager does not access this data. If deactivation has been performed at the domain or cookie level, it remains in effect for all tracking tags implemented with Google Tag Manager.
Use of GA Audience
This website uses GA Audience, a web analytics service provided by Google Inc. (1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA; “Google”), to collect and store data that is used to create usage profiles using pseudonyms. This technology enables users who have already visited our website and online services to see targeted advertising from us on other external sites within the Google Partner Network. To this end, a cookie is placed on your computer, which analyzes user behavior when visiting the website and can subsequently be used for targeted product recommendations and interest-based advertising. No personal data is stored or processed when the cookie is set. If you do not wish to receive interest-based advertising, you can disable the use of cookies by Google for these purposes by following the instructions at www.google.de/settings/ads/onweb
Use of the “Facebook Pixel” for Facebook Custom Audiences
We use the so-called “Facebook Pixel” from the social network Facebook on our website, which is operated by Facebook Ireland Ltd., 4 Grand Canal Square, Grand Canal Harbour, Dublin 2, Ireland (hereinafter “Facebook”).
By using the Facebook Pixel, we can define so-called “Custom Audiences,” i.e., user-defined target groups to which you are assigned as part of the tracking process via the pixel. The Facebook ads we place are then displayed only to those individuals who are assigned to the appropriate target group. This is intended to ensure that you receive ads only for products and services in which you are actually interested. We aim to ensure that our advertisements align with users’ potential interests and do not come across as intrusive. During transmission, the Facebook Pixel also sends personal data directly to Facebook. You can find out exactly what data is involved and for what other purposes Facebook processes this data in Facebook’s Privacy Policy at https://www.facebook.com/policy.php. The processing and transfer of our website visitors’ personal data is based on Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR and within the scope of your voluntarily given consent. You can revoke your consent at any time free of charge via our Cookie Consent Tool.
C’t’s Shariff Solution
We use the so-called “Shariff Solution” on our website to share our content. This allows us to protect your privacy and prevent the unintended transmission of information about your browsing behavior via social media plugins from, for example, Facebook, Google, or Twitter. Social media plugins are typically integrated into websites via so-called “iframes.” This causes personal information, such as your IP address or locally stored cookies, to be transmitted to the social media services as soon as the page loads. “Shariff” replaces the social media plugins with simple HTML links, and a script retrieves data on how often a page has already been shared or tweeted. Instead of your IP address, only our server address is transmitted to the social media services. Only when you actively click on a plugin will your personal data mentioned above be transmitted with your consent. For more information on the “Shariff solution” from c’t: www.heise.de/ct/ausgabe/2014-26-Social-Media-Buttons-datenschutzkonform-nutzen-2463330.html
Facebook-Fanpage
Since the European Court of Justice issued its ruling on June 5 2018, every fan page operator is jointly responsible with Facebook Ireland Limited (hereinafter “Facebook Ireland”) for the processing of personal data on the fan page. To establish an appropriate legal basis for tracking Insights data on our Facebook fan page, we obtain your consent via the cookie banner on this website.
We would also like to point out that all further information regarding the collection, processing, and use of personal data on our fan page, as well as the responsibility for data processing and your rights and obligations, is described in our Data Policy. You can find this in the Info section of our Facebook fan page under the link “Data Policy".
All further information regarding joint responsibility pursuant to Art. 26 GDPR in the processing of Insights data can be found in the Page Insights Addendum created by Facebook. Information regarding the processing of personal data by Facebook can be found in Facebook’s Privacy Policy.

How long will the data be stored? (Art. 13 Abs. 2 a DSGVO)
The legislature has established a wide range of retention requirements and time limits.
As a general rule, we store your data only for as long as required by law.
Once these time limits have expired, the relevant data is routinely deleted if it is no longer necessary for the performance of the contract. We store data that we process based on your consent until you revoke it or for as long as the data is needed. To comply with legal requirements, we may or must, where necessary, process your data and disclose it to third parties (Art. 6 Abs.1c).
We do not use your data in any way for automated decision-making or profiling.
We also use cookies to provide you with an improved service when you use our website and to make it easier for you to use this website (Art. 6 Abs. 1 f DSGVO).
What are your rights and obligations? (Art. 13 Abs. 2 b, c, d, e DSGVO)

- Art. 15 DSGVO: You have the right of access. This means you may request confirmation from us as to whether we are processing personal data concerning you.
- Art. 16 DSGVO: You have the right to rectification. This means you may request that we correct any inaccurate personal data concerning you.
- Art. 17 DSGVO: You have the right to erasure (“right to be forgotten”). This means you may request that we erase personal data concerning you without undue delay—unless we are unable to erase your data because, for example, we must comply with statutory retention obligations.
- Art. 18 DSGVO: You have the right to restrict processing. This means that, apart from storing your personal data, we are effectively no longer permitted to process it.
- Art. 20 DSGVO: You have the right to data portability. This means you have the right to receive the personal data concerning you that you have provided to us in a structured, commonly used, and machine-readable format and to transmit this data to another controller.
