SUSTAINABILITY
Discover opportunities, take responsibility.
Whether it's reducing CO2 emissions, water consumption or wasteful processes, at Chemiepark Knapsack we are constantly working to become more sustainable. By 2045, the companies based at the site should, among other things, have the opportunity to produce in a CO2-neutral manner. To this end, the operator YNCORIS is gradually switching to renewable energies.

Recyclable materials
The basis for the future of chemistry.
The circular economy is crucial for climate protection at the site and the future of Chemiepark Knapsack. For this reason, we are integrating innovative recycling technologies with an advanced sorting plant in the expansion area. This new part of the plant creates space for future-oriented companies, complements the existing site portfolio and makes Knapsack ready for the next generation of sustainable chemical production.
Sustainable transformation
Shaping the future together.

- Waste to energy plant by eew
- Mechanical recycling of beverage cartons by Palurec
- Advanced sorting and recycling of PE/PP plastic waste at the Hürth-Süd plant and in Wesseling (MoReTec plant) by LYB
- Chemical recycling of PET and polyester waste by matterr
- Prospective: CCU with partially biogenic CO2 on thermal waste utilisation
Green CO2 for CCU
- RWE's sludge incineration plant
- E.ON's biomass power plant
- eew's waste to energy plant
Industrial environment
- Phosphorus recycling at RWE
- Waste sorting centre at Remondis
- Biomass power plant at e.on
- Urban mining: batteries, plastics, textiles, tyres
Joint site Knapsack/Wesseling/Godorf
- Connection to LyondellBasell petrochemical complex
- Recycling of plastic waste – MoReTec plant/advanced sorting
- Propylene from Wesseling for production plants in Knapsack

Perspectives
Forward-looking sustainability.
- Circular economy as a location principle: multiple use of resources, waste avoidance
- Urban mining: efficient recovery of valuable raw materials from existing materials and facilities on site and within the region
- New settlements with foresight: focus on circular solutions and industrial partnerships with synergy potential
- Innovative strength meets industrial expertise: close proximity to the AI Village, universities and research institutions
- Flexible framework conditions for start-ups with sustainable ideas
Hürth Süd
Expansion area for innovation.
The circular economy is crucial for climate protection at the site and the future of the Chemiepark Knapsack. For this reason, an integrated recycling and processing centre is being built on the expansion area, along with the new Hürth Süd site part.
