COMPREHENSIVE SECURITY STRATEGY

We eliminate potential risks to the environment, health, and safety through technical and organizational measures at each facility, or minimize them as much as possible. Emergency response teams, the plant fire department, and plant security work together to ensure safety on site.

Emergency organisation

Just in case.

Plant Fire Department

Always ready to go.

In the event of an incident, every minute counts: arriving on the scene quickly and communicating effectively can be crucial. A public address system enables the plant fire department to immediately and simultaneously notify all control rooms at the facilities and key personnel throughout the chemical park. Communication with public fire departments is ensured through participation in the radio network of authorities and organizations with security responsibilities (BOS). There are three dedicated telephone lines to the control center of the Rhein-Erft district.

In addition to reactive fire protection during operations, the plant fire department is responsible for preventive fire protection and special tasks. These include training plant employees on how to respond in the event of a fire or on the use of fire extinguishers and respiratory protection equipment.

Over 100 emergency drills are conducted annually at the facilities. For firefighters, this means daily training, specialized instruction, and familiarization with the complex chemical plants. There is also regular collaboration and jointly organized drills with the public fire departments of the city of Hürth and surrounding towns, as well as with emergency response teams from other chemical sites.

When planning new facilities, the plant fire department establishes fire safety measures. Regular fire inspections are conducted at all facilities. For all operational areas of the companies in the chemical park, emergency response plans provide information on specific details such as hazardous materials, operational fire safety equipment, etc., as well as safety protocols.

Plant Security

Maintain safety.

Every industrial site has its own work and procedure instructions, as well as rules of conduct and behavior, which must be followed by everyone on the premises—and the Chemical Park Knapsack is no exception. Plant security is in place to ensure this. This complex field of work spans various areas and encompasses a range of responsibilities.

The primary mission of plant security is to prevent hazards and damage to the facility, its employees, and visitors by maintaining safety and order. However, daily tasks for plant security personnel also include traffic control, processing trucks at the plant entrance, patrols and lock-up rounds, reception services, and coordinating response measures in the event of an incident.

In addition to checking the entry of cars and trucks, the duties of plant security personnel also include general traffic and speed checks, patrols, cargo security inspections, and vehicle inspections to prevent theft.

Emergency calls from within the chemical park, as well as alarms from the fire detection systems, are received at the security control center and are immediately handled by the dispatchers. Consequently, a staff member must always be present here, because in the event of an incident, it is the qualified dispatchers who, together with the plant fire department, immediately initiate the appropriate measures—such as maintaining contact with the county control center, convening the crisis management team, or alerting their own or public emergency services.
